LOOKING FOR ALI BRANDI - WEEK 7
INT. ST. MARTHA'S CONVENT - SISTER LOUISE'S SECTERARY
OFFICE - DAY
Josie watches suspiciously as Sister and Michael whisper
together at the door. When Sister leaves, Michael shuts
the door and Josie sits, uncomfortable under Michael's
scrutiny.
JOSIE
She gets on my nerves.
MICHAEL
That's it?
JOSIE
Her hair's all over my books when she
sits in front of me.
Josie does imitations of Carly and her hair.
MICHAEL
For that I would have knifed her.
Josie becomes angrier.
JOSIE
She's a racist. She called me a wog..
amongst other things.
MICHAEL
So you broke her nose with a science
book?
JOSIE
History.
MICHAEL
What did she say to you?
Josie is made furious by his lack of understanding.
JOSIE
I'm sick of being called names, okay.
MICHAEL
Well, get used to it, Josephine,
because there are a lot of name
callers out there and if you have to
thump every single one of them then
you'll be spending the rest of your
life paying legal fees.
JOSIE
My apologies for disturbing your life!
Just go and I'll fix this up myself.
Michael pulls Josie's chair aggressively towards him, until
they are nose to nose. For the first time they are staring
each other in the eye.
MICHAEL
That creep out there wants you to pay
for his daughter's nose job. Because
of that nose job she'll become a model
one day and you'll be working in your
fast-food chain because you couldn't
finish your HSC due to your expulsion.
Now, tell me what she said.
JOSIE
It doesn't matter, okay? {Because}
she doesn't give a shit about anyone.
She just does all this damage and
leaves us feeling like crap.
Josie is crying.
JOSIE (CONT'D)
Did he think I didn't get depressed
half the time and feel like killing
myself? How dare he? Everyone knew
who his father was. Nobody ever told
their kids they weren't allowed to
play over at his place.
Michael reaches out and touches her face, as if seeing her
for the first time. Josie is stunned by what she has
revealed and what he has realised.
