            INT. DANCE HALL - NIGHT

            CRAIG, JESSICA

            CRAIG watches the party from the side as JESSICA sidles up. 
            These two have known each other a long time and there's a bit
            of history behind them.

                                JESSICA
                      Bit surprised to see you here.

            CRAIG barely glances her way.

                                CRAIG
                      Bit surprised you noticed me.

                                JESSICA
                      You stand out Craig.  'Specially when
                      you're dead miserable.

                                CRAIG
                      I'm okay.

                                JESSICA
                      That's excellent.  'Cause we though after
                      Nicky's party you'd probably want to kill
                      yourself or something.

            CRAIG'S steady look clouds a little.

                                CRAIG
                      Thanks.  Hope you haven't lost any sleep
                      worrying about me.

                                JESSICA
                      You had a few drinks I suppose.  That
                      probably explains it.

                                CRAIG
                      You were pretty pissed too.  I remember
                      that bit.

            A pause.  Will Jessica take the torture further?

                                JESSICA
                      But I didn't grope Nicky's mother, did I?

                                CRAIG
                      Do you turn back into a bat at midnight,
                      Jess?

                                JESSICA
                      Nicky reckons you didn't know it was her
                      mum.  But maybe you just aim high.

                                CRAIG
                      She was done up as a pro!

                                JESSICA
                      It was fancy dress, Craig.  She's
                      allowed?

                                CRAIG
                      You want to know what really happened?
                      She came on to me, okay?

                                JESSICA
                      Yeah right.

            But CRAIG is adamant.

                                CRAIG
                      She looked at me.  Heaps of  times.

                                JESSICA
                      That's great.  I've gotta try drinking a
                      lot of beer one day and see if it turns
                      me into a totally huge dickhead.  It sure
                      works for boys.

                                CRAIG
                      Stick to your mum's gin.

            A sharp look from JESSICA.

                                JESSICA
                      So what are you waiting for?  Is Nicky's
                      mum meeting you here?

                                CRAIG
                      Piss off Jess.

                                JESSICA
                      Saw you talking to Jodi.   You're on her
                      list … she told me.

            CRAIG brightens a little.

                                JESSICA (CONT'D)
                      You're number four.  Don't hold your
                      breath.

            She smiles and wafts away, leaving a glowering CRAIG.
