:: Industry Invite- OUR COUNTRY'S GOOD @ The Darlinghurst Theatre

The Group Theatre is excited to invite you to their first production after a two-year hiatus.

Our Country's Good tells the remarkable true story of the first play that was ever staged by white people in Australia, amazingly performed entirely by convicts.
Full details of the production are below.

We've put together an ensemble cast of 11 actors and have some very talented folk working on designing a stage and sound track that will transport you (perhaps not for seven years, probably just a little over two hours!).

We would like to offer you an opportunity to see the show on any of the following dates:

July 29, 30 or 31 at 8pm
August 3 at 5pm
August 5, 6, or 7 at 8pm
August 10 at 5pm

To reserve a double pass to a performance please reply to Jocelyn at thegrouptheatre@gmail.com and let me know which date best suits you.

The Group Theatre is a Sydney-based independent theatre company that electrified audiences with Hurlyburly and Lord of the Flies, both productions received outstanding critical acclaim and record box office sales.

ABOUT THE PLAY

OUR COUNTRY'S GOOD
By Timberlake Wertenbaker
Based on a novel by Thomas Keneally
Winner of the Olivier Award

1789: A new world populated by liars, thieves, rapists and whores. Welcome to Australia. Let's play.

'powerful and inspirational' - The Stage, UK

From the extraordinary novel The Playmaker by award-winning author Thomas Keneally (Schindler's Ark, The Chant of Jimmy Blacksmith), Our Country's Good takes us back to our convict past and tells the true story of the first theatrical production staged in Australia -performed entirely by convicts.

Sydney 1789, Governor Phillip faces the challenge of building a new society out of bitter, resentful officers, and hundreds of thieves, pickpockets and murderers. In an effort to humanise the population, bring some culture to the colony, and provide alternative entertainment to public hangings, the progressive Governor decides to stage a play.

From the company that electrified audiences with Hurlyburly and Lord of the Flies, Our Country's Good is a bawdy, chilling and hilarious tale from Australia's neglected history.
